Family Business

Kernow Cat Hotel is a family business run by me, Ruth, and my husband John. I do the majority of the day to day running of the business. It’s me you’ll speak to on the phone, me that you’ll meet in reception and me that will be building a relationship with your cat and, of course, you. This means you’ll know exactly who will be looking after your cat and because it’s mostly me, with occasional visits from John, they tend to settle in to KCH life much quicker.

As a life-long cat owner and lover, I have years of experience including handling and caring for anxious and nervous cats and dealing with the very young and the very old. Working with animals and running a cattery has been a life-long dream for me and I consider myself to be very lucky to be supported by John who shares my passion for cats. I will do whatever it takes to help your cat settle and relax so they can enjoy their holiday.

Qualified to deliver the best service.

I hold the International Cat Care qualification in Advanced Feline Behaviour for Cat Professionals which I passed with distinction in 2019. This 18 month modular course provides students with knowledge and skills in numerous areas of feline behaviour to ensure they develop mutually beneficial relationships with cats, provide the best environment for the cats in their care and meet their behavioural needs. The course also looks at understanding how cats develop problem behaviours, how to prevent them and how best to help when faced with problem behaviour

I have also successfully completed a week-long residential cattery management course in July 2019.

Meet The Family

We have 8 cats of our own, 6 of whom were rescues and 3 dogs including 1 rescue. Animals are our passion and if we could we would rescue every cat and dog needing a home.

Our Cats

Our Dogs

Rest assured, the dogs are not allowed in the orchard or anywhere near the hotel. They are fortunate enough to have their own fields to run in and they are very content with that.

The hotel sits in our own grounds just 40 metres from the house which means there is a 24 hour presence to ensure the safety of our guests. We are extremely security conscious and have taken every precaution to protect your cat and keep them safe. There is a double entry door system in the hotel, motion sensor security lights outside and 24 hour CCTV monitoring covering every room, reception and the corridor together with 4 external cameras which cover the entire area surrounding the hotel. Our double gates to the car park are kept closed and padlocked unless we are expecting an appointment.

Check in / Check out

Our aim is not only to provide the ultimate service for your cat but also for you. That’s why check in and check out are done strictly by appointment only. This ensures we are able to devote our undivided attention to you and your cat without distraction and ensure you’re as happy as possible leaving your cat in our care. Our first priority is the health and well-being of your cat but a very close second is ensuring our guests’ owners are happy too.

Check in and check out appointments are available between 8.00 am and 7.30 pm. Appointments outside of these times may be considered, where possible, but an out of hours’ charge of £20.00 per appointment will be charged (£30.00 on bank holidays).

We are closed for check in and check out on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Expert Record Keeping

We keep a professional and detailed record of all of our guests which allows us to keep a close eye on all their needs, their loves, likes and dislikes as well as any medication requirements and behavioural issues.  With the extent of detail we go into we can ensure we provide the highest level of individual care possible, time and time again.  Our guests always tell us what they enjoy, what they need and what they love.  We learn about each guest’s preferences and requirements which makes their stay truly personal and thoroughly enjoyable.

Administering Medication

We are happy to administer medication as long as your cats are used to it and are happy for us to do so. Please remember where medication is concerned that we are a care home and not a nursing home so your cat must be stabilised on whatever medication they are on. We recommend you discuss medication needs with us before your stay so that we can ensure the best possible management for your cat. We do not charge extra for administering medication but please read our terms and conditions on administering medication carefully before making your booking.

Keeping in Touch

We are pleased to offer state of the art 24-hour webcam access to your cat’s room whilst you are away. There is an additional charge for this service (please see Pricing & Services for details). Access is through the internet via an App and you can log in and see how your cat is enjoying their stay from anywhere in the world. A strong wifi connection is needed to use this service and even though the cameras pan around the room, tilt and zoom, there are some areas of the room where you are unable to see your cat. For owners who have a WhatsApp account we are happy to send updates with videos and photos periodically of your cat throughout their stay free of charge. Updates without photos can also be sent via text message free of charge

Our lovely customers keep coming back - find out why!

"What an amazing place and a wonderful owner. Right from the start you can tell Ruth loves cats and her job above and beyond what you would normally expect. The facilities are super and spotlessly clean."

P&V Newton

"Excellent place for your cats, beautiful rooms and spotlessly clean. Ruth the owner sent us daily updates on Gizmo and Sox. She looked after them so well, feel very confident to leave our cats in her capable hands, lovely lady..."

Sharon Morgan

"I wish if I could give more than 5* to Ruth. She is such an amazing person, giving all of her attention to her guests. She was taking care for our little one, whom we couldn't take with us for our holiday, but I do believe she was in the best place and best hands. We were getting daily updates, videos even we had webcam access..."

Rita Tóth

"Best cattery so far. Constant attention. Properly fed. Plenty of space for him in a spotless room, and for a change no stomping around barking at us for two days on his return home. Happy cat ( yes he barks ) and happy owners."

Anthony Crossland

"We were so nervous about leaving our little one for the first time but Ruth was so amazing and reassuring and made us feel completely comfortable when we went to see her.

We completely trusted her right from the start. It’s so clear she cares about all her visitors and gives them so much love and attention.

We got daily updates and photos and videos and we could see that Roxy was completely comfortable with Ruth and her environment and we wouldn’t take her anywhere else!"

"Just picked my 2 cats up Spot and Biffa after a stay in Kernow Cat Hotel. They are content and happy and had a great stay, it’s obvious that they have been well cared for. The added touch of what’s app messages, videos and photos of them during their time there definitely put my mind at rest. I would recommend Kernow Cat Hotel to anyone a 5 star service for both cats and owners😺 😺 😺 😺 😺 "
